NOAH System version 3.6 FAQs
  Q. What are the new features of NOAH System version 3.6?
A.

In NOAH System 3.6, HIMSA updates key technologies for networking and data storage.

Improved networking technology – .NET networking technology in NOAH System 3.6 provides faster and more responsive NOAH networking. It also ensures greater reliability, flexibility and Windows compatibility compared to the current DCOM technology found in earlier NOAH System versions, especially when dealing with Windows firewalls and security issues.

New NOAH Console utility
– This utility provides a number of useful tools for monitoring and maintaining performance on your NOAH System network.

New and larger database – NOAH System has also switched from its current Microsoft Access database to a larger Microsoft database. This will allow NOAH System users to store considerably more client data in the NOAH database, including eTONA electronic orders and ear impression data.

Ability to migrate to an even larger database
– The new database provides enough storage capacity for most NOAH users. However, for those who need even more data storage space, NOAH System 3.6 also provides the option of connecting to a Microsoft SQL Server database, providing unlimited data storage for larger NOAH installations. Microsoft SQL Server can be purchased directly from Microsoft or other authorized resellers.

Automated backup of client data – The Database Properties tool has been updated to provide improved performance and reliability. The Database Property tool allows you to schedule automated backups, helping to ensure that you have a backup copy of your client records should the need arise.

eTONA electronic ordering functionality – support for eTONA was first added in NOAH version 3.5.2, and several minor improvements have been made in version 3.6.

In order to use eTONA for electronic ordering, you must install an electronic ordering module from your hearing instrument manufacturer.

NOAH Questionnaire module – The NOAH Questionnaire module (version 1.1) is also part of NOAH System 3.6. The Questionnaire module allows you to electronically store and view COSI and APHAB questionnaire data.

Vista compatibility
– HIMSA has also worked hard to ensure that NOAH System version 3.6 is compatible with Microsoft’s new Windows Vista operating system.

  Q. Have NOAH System minimum requirements changed for 3.6?
A. Due to the advanced technology, NOAH 3.6 cannot be run on Windows 98 or Me.

For Windows XP Professional, 2000, and 2003 Server, you must also be sure to install the latest Service Packs.

Version 3.6 is compatible with Microsoft’s new Windows Vista operating system. However, in order to use NOAH System 3.6 on Windows Vista, your NOAH 3 modules must also be compatible. Contact your module manufacturer for more information.

Otherwise, the minimum requirements are similar to NOAH 3.5.2. Use the link in the right-hand column to view the minimum requirements.

  Q. When will version 3.6 be available and how much does it cost?
A. NOAH System 3.6 was released in June 2007, and is now available for download on our website.

The upgrade to NOAH System 3.6 is free for all registered users of NOAH System 3.

  Q. Is it difficult to migrate to a Microsoft SQL Server database?
A. For those who need to store very large numbers of client records, NOAH System 3.6 will also provide the option of connecting to a Microsoft SQL Server database.

We recommend that you have a working knowledge of the SQL Server before attempting a migration to an SQL Server. For more information, please click on How to migrate to a Microsoft SQL Server under Related Links.
