Backing up the NOAH database

The backup utility makes a copy of your database and stores it in a location of your choosing. If your database is already backed up as part of a regular backup routine that backs up your entire computer, it is not necessary to use the NOAH Database Tool’s backup utility.

NOTE:
  • For NOAH System, version 3.1.2 or earlier, refer to Backing up, pre 3.5.2 under Related Links to the right of this page.
  • It is important to back up the database on a regular basis – for example, weekly. Make a back-up copy to a device other than the hard drive containing the database in case the hard drive crashes.
  • You should delete old backup files (and for NOAH 3.5.2, back-up log files) to free space on the hard disk. Refer to Deleting backup files under Related Links to the right of this page.

Manually backing up

  1. Close NOAH System if it is running. In Windows, click Start > All Programs > NOAH System > NOAH Database Properties.
  2. Open the Tools tab and click Backup.
  3. Locate the NOAH System database filename you wish to back up (the NOAH database is generally located at C:\Program Files\HIMSA\NOAH System\Database\noah.mdb).
  4. Select a Location of backup files other than the drive containing the database.
  5. Click Backup. After backing up occurs, a message will appear, stating that this has been successful. Click OK.
  6. Click Close. Click OK.

  3. Check Compacting occurs with backup to defragment your database.
  4. Select a Location of backup files other than the drive containing the database in case the hard drive crashes.
  5. Use the pull-down menus below Schedule to select a regular time for backup.
  6. Check Enable automatic backup to allow regular automatic backups.
  7. Click OK.
