As you change data in a database, the database file can become fragmented and use more disk space than is necessary. The compact utility reduces the size of your database by defragmenting the data. The compacted database is usually smaller and often runs faster.

NOTE: You should compact your database once in a while in order to keep NOAH running efficiently, and especially after a NOAH 2 to NOAH 3 database conversion. HIMSA especially recommends that you run the Compact Utility after a NOAH 2 to NOAH 3 database conversion.

- Close NOAH System if it is running. In Windows, click Start > All Programs > NOAH System > NOAH Database Properties.
- Open the Tools tab and click Compact.
- Locate the NOAH System database filename you wish to compact (the NOAH database is generally located at C:\Program Files\HIMSA\NOAH System\Database\noah.mdb).
- Click Compact. After compacting occurs, a message will appear, stating that this has been successful. Click OK.
- Click Close. Click OK.
