Compatibility with Norton Antivirus 2005 or 2006

Description

Norton Antivirus 2005 and 2006 installs by default a feature called Internet Worm Protection. This software blocks the protocol that is needed for NOAH to be able to communicate across a network. After installing the Norton software, the following message appears:

The office server could not set or initialize current user/client.

Solution

  1. Open the Norton 2005/2006 on the PC acting as your NOAH server and select Options.

  1. Then, select Internet Worm Protection from the left-hand column and then click on the General Rules button.

  2. In the window that appears, double-click on Default Block Microsoft Windows 2000 SMB.

  3. In the Modify Rule window, select Permit: Allow connections to match this rule.

  4. On the Modify Rule window, select the Communications tab. Click next to the Only the types of communication ports listed below selection and then click Add.

  5. On the Specify Ports window, check the box next to Port 135. Then click OK and then OK again.

  6. Close Norton Antivirus.
  7. Test the changes by trying to login to NOAH.
