Checklist: Before You Upgrade

IMPORTANT: Please read through the following list before upgrading your NOAH System. This list will help you avoid potential installation errors.

General Preparations

  • If your NOAH installation is currently integrated with a NOAH compatible office system, do not download and install NOAH System. Please contact your office system vendor for more details.
  • DO NOT UNINSTALL YOUR PREVIOUS VERSION OF NOAH SYSTEM BEFORE INSTALLING THE NEW NOAH SYSTEM VERSION.
  • Please note that the average install time for NOAH System is 45 minutes per PC. So please be sure to reserve sufficient time, especially for network installations.
  • During the upgrade, you will be prompted to reboot during the installation. Typically this will happen after the old NOAH has been uninstalled. After the reboot, the NOAH installation will continue. Do not skip any reboots when prompted. Each reboot performs an important function and skipping the reboot could result in a failed NOAH upgrade.

Additional Issues

Checklist: Before You Upgrade
Pointing a NOAH 3.6 or later Client install to a New Server Computer

NOAH System 3.6 and later uses an Upgrader concept to update an existing NOAH installation. In the case of a NOAH Client install, it will upgrade the client using the current path to the NOAH Server.
To avoid this, you can uninstall the NOAH Client from Add\Remove Programs before you upgrade. In this case, you be able to path to the new NOAH Server computer during the installation.

NOTE: After installation, if the server path is incorrect, you will have an opportunity when launching NOAH to create a new profile to the new server. For more information click on the link above.

Avoiding the IDispatch 1091 Installation Error

The IDispatch error may occur after you have upgraded from NOAH version 3.5.2 to version 3.6 or later. To avoid this error, click on the link above and follow the procedure. This procedure helps to ensure a smoother upgrade.

IMPORTANT: This procedure is only for end user sites which do NOT use eTONA electronic ordering.

Check your Windows Operating System

IMPORTANT: NOAH System version 3.7 does not support Windows NT, 98, Me or 2000. If you are using Windows XP, version 3.7 requires that you install Service Pack 3.

For a complete description of how to choose the right Windows Operating system click on the link above. If you are updating workstations in a NOAH network, you may want to check that all your PCs have supported Windows operating systems before you upgrade.

Installing to a Non-Default Location

In some cases, locations will want to install NOAH System to second drive or alternate location.  While NOAH 3.6 and later does support changing the installation path, be aware that the bulk of the NOAH System files will still install to the C drive. Many NOAH System files are installed to Program Files\Common Files\HIMSA Shared. The path for these files cannot be changed to another drive or directory. Also the NOAH System SQL Express database location cannot be changed. This database is also installed to the C drive. Therefore changing the installation location for NOAH System will not end up saving a significant amount of disk space.
