NOAH System 3.6.1 Installation Tips
Rebooting when prompted with NOAH 3.6.1

During an upgrade to NOAH 3.6.1, you will be prompted to reboot during the installation. Typically this will happen after the old NOAH has been uninstalled. After the reboot, the NOAH 3.6.1 installation will continue. Do not skip any reboots when prompted. Each reboot performs an important function and skipping the reboot could result in a failed NOAH 3.6.1 upgrade.

Pointing a NOAH 3.6.1 Client install to a New Server Computer

NOAH System 3.6.1 uses an Upgrader concept to update an existing NOAH installation to NOAH 3.6.1. In the case of a NOAH Client install, it will upgrade the client using the current path to the NOAH Server. The upgrader will proceed to update and not present an opportunity to change the path to a new server. If the path is incorrect, you will have an opportunity when launching NOAH to create a new profile to the new server (see Select NOAH Database under Related Links).

To avoid this, you can uninstall the NOAH Client from Add\Remove Programs before you upgrade to 3.6.1. In this case, you be able to path to the new NOAH Server computer during the installation.

  Avoiding the IDispatch 1091 Error

The IDispatch error may occur after you have upgraded from NOAH version 3.5.2 to version 3.6.1. To avoid this error, click on the IDispatch Issue link under Related Links and follow the procedure. This procedure helps to ensure a smoother upgrade from NOAH System 3.5.2 to version 3.6.1 for end user sites NOT using eTONA.

Installing NOAH System 3.6.1 to a Non Default Location

In some cases, locations will want to install NOAH System to second drive or alternate location.  While NOAH 3.6.1 does support changing the installation path, be aware that the bulk of the NOAH System 3.6.1 files will still install to the C drive. Many NOAH System files are installed to Program Files\Common Files\HIMSA Shared. The path for these files cannot be changed to another drive or directory. Also the NOAH System 3.6.1 SQL 2005 Express database location cannot be changed. This database is also installed to the C drive. Therefore changing the installation location for NOAH System 3.6.1 will not end up saving a significant amount of disk space.

Windows XP SP2 Required for NOAH System 3.6.1

NOAH System 3.6.1 requires Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. This is a change from previous versions of NOAH System. If SP2 is not on the machine, the installation will not proceed.

If you are updating workstations in a NOAH network, you may want to check that all PCs have SP2 installed before you begin the upgrade. If not, you may end up with a server and some workstations updated, but some PCs unable to install NOAH 3.6.1 until they have been updated to SP2.
