The NOAH 3.6.1 Prerequisite Installer is failing during Microsoft SQL installation – Error 28086

Cause:

The NOAH 3.6.1 installation is designed to first install all the prerequisites for NOAH, then remove any existing NOAH installation, and then install NOAH 3.6.1.  Therefore, if you receive an error during the prerequisite installation, your existing version of NOAH System will continue to function until this problem can be resolved.

In the case of the above error “Failed to install Pre-requisite software … Error code: 28086”,an existing Microsoft database instance is causing a conflict with the installation of the SQl 2005 Express database.

Solution:

Follow these steps:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Uninstall MSQL Server 2005 as follows:
    1. Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
    2. Right-click on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and select Remove.

  5. Locate the registry and delete the HIMSA key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\

IMPORTANT: If you are concerned about editing the registry, you should first export the keys in the registry that you plan to edit, or back up the whole registry.

  6. Reinstall NOAH System 3.6.1.
