Pacemakers
Patients wearing pacemakers may use NOAHlink without undue concern.
HIMSA has investigated this issue and discovered that the NOAHlink safe margin of operation is met: the distance between the antenna of NOAHlink's transmitter is 15mm from the outer surface of the NOAHlink case and is, therefore, within the recommended safe distance.
Rechargeable alkaline batteries
HIMSA has been made aware that some NOAHlink users use alkaline batteries in their NOAHlink unit which claim to be rechargeable.
However, attempting to recharge these alkaline batteries with the NOAHlink charger has in some cases resulted in battery leakage and damage to the NOAHlink unit.
Therefore, we strongly recommend that you do not attempt to recharge any alkaline battery in the NOAHlink unit, even if the battery claims to be rechargeable.
HIPAA security regulations
Some customers have expressed concerns about installing NOAHlink because they believe its Bluetooth technology may violate HIPAA security regulations and allow unauthorized access to their patient information.
Such concerns are unfounded. Although Bluetooth supports networking, this is not implemented with NOAHlink. Only the Bluetooth COM interfaces are implemented. Therefore, HIPAA security requirements are not applicable to NOAHlink.
