Problem: After installing BT adapters on Win XP with SP2 I cannot open 'My Bluetooth Places' or
Error Message: No local Bluetooth device was detected Solution: Microsoft has released Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, which includes drivers for many Bluetooth devices. The NOAHlink services are not available using the generic Microsoft SP2 drivers, so it is necessary to install the drivers provided by the manufacturer of your Bluetooth device. After installing the drivers for your Bluetooth adapter on a Windows XP SP2 computer, you will find that you are unable to open My Bluetooth Places and the icon for My Bluetooth Places in the task bar will be red. (NOTE: It may happen that the Bluetooth icon in the bar does not become red but, when trying to search the Bluetooth neighborhood, an error message displays: No local Bluetooth device was detected.) The following instructions will solve the problem: A. Install the Bluetooth Device | Important: | If NOAHlink Properties will not start, you may have installed your NOAHlink software before installing your Bluetooth software. Solution: Reinstall your NOAHlink software. |
- Install the latest version of the Bluetooth driver for your device. If you do not have the latest Bluetooth driver, we recommend that you download it from the manufacturer’s Internet site.
Follow the instructions: During this installation the system will notify you that the software you are installing has not passed the Windows Logo testing. Select Continue Anyway whenever the prompt is displayed. This prompt may display SEVERAL times.

Do NOT connect the Bluetooth device even if you are asked to. When you are prompted to connect the device, select Cancel or Close.

- Restart your computer when the installation is completed.
- When Windows has finished launching, connect the Bluetooth device to your computer. The system tray will have two Bluetooth icons, one white and one red:

Clicking on the red Bluetooth icon will produce the error.

- Click OK to close.
B. Update the Bluetooth Radios
- Open the Control Panel. Select System, open the Hardware tab, and select Device Manager.
- Find and double-click the item Bluetooth Radios.
 - Highlight the device you are installing. (Note: In the above example this is the Belkin Bluetooth Adapter.)
- Select Properties from the Action menu.
- Select the Driver tab, and select Update Driver. The Hardware Update Wizard opens.
 - Select No, not this time, then select Next to continue. The Wizard asks you for an installation method (Note: The text may differ, depending on the driver you are updating).
- Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then select Next to continue.
- Select Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install, then select Next to continue.
 - Select the driver you are updating from the list, then select Next to continue.
- The system may notify you that the software has not passed the Windows Logo testing. Select Continue Anyway to overrule this warning.
- Select Finish when the system prompts you that it has completed the update. Then close the Device Manager.
- You should now see a white Bluetooth icon in the bottom right corner of your screen. Double click the icon with the white logo to complete the installation of the Bluetooth driver.
