Noah ES Case Study

It all began in 1999, when Aria’s founders recognized a need to bring compassionate ancillary clinical care to seniors in skilled nursing facilities, helping to improve quality and duration of life.

“Our clinicians visit different skilled nursing communities daily, bringing care to an underserved population,” says Amanda Davis, Director of Audiology.

“Aria Care Partners puts the patient first with a philosophy of compassion and a duty of care,” continues Davis. “We have created a system that allows our mobile clinicians to focus on care, while internal teams focus on logistics, billing, and scheduling. Our audiology team provides bedside services to residents, which includes annual hearing exams, diagnostic testing, and earwax removals, as well as same-day hearing aid dispenses and ongoing hearing aid programming and maintenance.”

That’s probably the reason why Aria Care Partners is now the leading provider of onsite ancillary care services to skilled nursing facilities, with clinicians operating independently in 25 states across the US. 

Noah ES – a critical component

Aria is always on the lookout for tools to make their services more efficient. So when they heard about Noah ES, Aria was very interested.

“We signed up for the Noah ES product in September 2022 and were able to fully begin utilizing it as-is immediately,” says Davis. “We currently have about 35 providers actively utilizing the tool.”

“ES has been a critical component for Aria,” claims Davis, “with measured transparency between providers in their unique market while allowing flexibility, autonomy, and seamless patient care regardless of where the providers are located and when staffing changes occur.”

A tighter Noah ES connection

Aria was so pleased with the results, they became a HIMSA member company, and integrated Noah ES directly with their EMR system.

“Integration of Noah ES with our EMR system was a strategic imperative for us to ensure that all basic patient demographic data was being housed within Noah in a way that was consistent, accurate, and streamlined for providers while maintaining reliable patient records in both systems,” says Davis. “It was an enormous time-saver for the providers, as they are no longer required to manually input all the patient information prior to testing.” 

Aria was also able to structure the integration to allow retrieval of audiogram data after testing allowing providers to save it directly in the patient chart in addition to within Noah ES.

“This affords our team of clinicians the ability to review the results over time, track changes in results, and make informed treatment decisions without having to find the information in a separate application,” states Davis. 

“Furthermore, we are able to ensure that patient data is accessible in a timely manner in the event of staffing changes, without needing to download or upload from a single computer hard drive.”

It took Aria about a year to develop and launch the integration. But it was time well spent.

The main challenges with integration stemmed from the development and functionality on the EMR end to ensure it was an efficient and streamlined workflow from the clinicians’ perspective.

“In large part, this was due to the time it took the developers with the EMR application to design the inner-workings and interface to enable communication between it and Noah reciprocally, stated Davis. “We wanted patient demographic information imported from the EMR to create patients in Noah, and conversely, we wanted to pull audiogram data into patient charts for record-keeping purposes. 

Aria and Noah ES: A Great Fit

What does Aria like about Noah ES? Davis has a long list.

“Noah ES has been a great fit for Aria Care Partners as it provides the means for our mobile practice to provide care effectively and efficiently to our patient population.” Says Davis. “And from a business perspective, it has been far more financially beneficial since we are so large and span across many locations and providers.” 

For example, Noah ES provides ease and flexibility in adding and dropping licenses for additional practitioners at Aria’s discretion.  The web-based delivery also removes the wait for the license to be shipped by a distributor, while also providing the ability to remove provider access quickly in-house when required to do so or when a replacement computer is needed in the field. 

Since Noah ES stores data in the cloud, it also reduces the risk of losing patient records if a computer gets lost or malfunctions, or when staff resigns. Noah ES also provides greater visibility for back-up providers to step in and provide services when the need arises.

And the Noah ES subscription model is financially beneficial – paying a monthly per-provider subscription rather than owning run-time licenses for life.

However, there is also one improvement Aria would like to see.

“The ability to connect without the internet to run the modules in a stand-by type setup that later syncs to the server once re-connected to the internet would be quite beneficial,” suggests Davis.

HIMSA is already working on an improved offline feature for a future version of Noah ES.

So, would Aria recommend Noah ES?

As you might suspect, the answer is an emphatic yes!

“It offers our unique business the flexibility, cost-efficiency, transparency, and control we need with an expanding service line, which operates with only remote staff,” states Davis.  “The interface for providers is not much different than what they were accustomed to, but from an operations standpoint it is such a better option for us to effectively run our practice.”
