With modern technology and stringent data regulations, the more you can do to secure your patient data the better.

In this article, we will show you some more advanced ways to secure your patient data from prying eyes.

Use the strong user password feature in Noah

Check the strong user passwords feature in the Login Settings. This will ensure that your Noah users use more secure passwords for their accounts.

Strong passwords need to be at least 8 characters long. In addition, they must contain a mixture of capital letters, numbers and other non-alphanumeric characters.

Tailoring data access for your employees

Not all your employees need the same access to your patient data. Your computer administrator will need Administrator access to set up Noah properly. However, other members of your staff may not need the ability to delete or export your patient data.

That’s why Noah provides three user access levels.

Configure the Level 1 and Level 2 user settings to fit the needs of your practice. Then assign each Noah user to the access level that best fits their needs.

Keep Windows and Noah upgraded to the latest versions

Make sure to install the latest upgrades and patches to your Windows operating system. Better yet, set Windows up to automatically install these updates. Windows updates often fix critical security vulnerabilities on your Noah computer.

If you are using a Windows version, such as Windows XP, upgrade your computer today. Unsupported Windows versions no longer receive security updates so they are open to security attacks.

And be sure to install the free upgrade to the latest Noah System 4 version. HIMSA often adds new data security features and upgrades to help protect patient data and to comply with the latest data protection standards.

Enable the Windows login

Many users disable the Windows login on their PC for the sake of convenience.

Windows login is simple to enable and provides an important extra layer of data security for your patient data.

But what if your laptop is stolen?

However, even all the steps above will not be enough if your business laptop is lost or stolen.

Next month, we will describe data encryption, an even better solution to ensure patient data security on your business laptop and your other business computers as well.
